The Weekend’s LP ‘Starboy’ Broke Spotify’s Record For The Most Streams In One Week

It seems like just about everyone on planet earth has streamed The Weeknd‘s new album Starboy in the last week.

The record, his third album, has been streamed over 400 million times worldwide across all platforms but it’s on Spotify where he broke records.

As The Fader reports, it clocked up the most streams in one day, scoring 40 million streams, and then went on to break the record for the most streams in one week with 223 million listens.

He’s now the most listened to artist on Spotify based on monthly listeners which was a title previously held by Drake.

It’s not all bad news for Drake though. He still took home the award for the most streamed artist on Spotify of 2016, even if that was calculated before Starboy was released. He also still holds the record for the most streamed song of all time with One Dance.

Starboy is The Weeknd’s first record since 2015’s Beauty Behind The Madness. It features Kendrick Lamar, Daft Punk, Lana Del Rey and Future plus production by Cashmere Cat, Diplo and Metro Boomin. Not a bad lineup at all.
