Radio Station Looping Lorde’s ‘Royals’ For Totally Not-Ridiculous Reasons

Kansas City radio station 99.7 The Point isn’t playing ball with San Francisco’s KFOG Radio, or even its sister station 96.5 KOIT, after the two Bay Area stations put a ban on Lorde’s hit song Royals.

The Kansas City station has offered a stunning show of solidarity for the Kansas City Royals’ World Series baseball campaign, vowing to crank Royals every hour, on the hour, from 7am to 7pm on opening night of the World Series. The move comes in response to the San Francisco station’s banning of the song in the lead-up to the series.

99.7 The Point Program Director Tony Lorino vowed Kansas City won’t bow down to the oppressive regime that is 96.5 KOIT and KFOG Radio and will defiantly loop Royals hourly for the sake of civic pride, no matter the cost.

Or, to be more accurate, Lorino said, far less dramatically, told his station he respected 96.5 KOIT Program Director Brian Figula but “won’t let their anti-Royals spirit ruin this moment”. However, Lorino did strike out against Giants’ fans, labelling the San Fran faithful as jealous.

“A few angry San Franciscans who don’t have a song called Giants won’t rain on our parade,” Lorino said. Kitty’s got claws!

KFOG Radio and 96.5 KOIT pulled Royals from rotation during the World Series between The Giants and the Royals, because Lorde’s breakthrough single was inspired by a National Geographic photograph of retired Kansas City Royals third baseman George Brett. You can’t make this stuff up.
