Dizzee Rascal has admitted that the fun has gone out of music for him, and that he is enjoying taking some time off from his career.
At the end of a tumultuous week for the London rapper, what with him being hauled off a British Airways flight for excessive arguing with an attendant, Dizzee revealed in an interview with the Evening Standard that he has been enjoying his time away from the limelight after 10 years on the music treadmill.
He said, “Since taking a break I’ve been going on loads of holidays, I’ve been going back and forth to Miami and just enjoying myself and trying to live, and doing my little side things like photography and fishing, which are good for me.”
He added, “Musically I could have just carried on, but mentally and physically I was drained,” and that “the fun had gone out” of making music.
The 25-year-old also revealed that he is looking forward to having children, when his career allows it, saying, “I’d have kids now if I knew I didn’t have to make an album or was just about to step into a bigger phase in my career… I’ll wait a couple of years, but I’d like to have lots of kids.”
He is facing a possible lifetime ban from BA after the incident with a flight attendant on a flight to Portugal. He was ultimately escorted off the plane by police. An eyewitness said, “Dizzee was getting very angry, it was taking so long to take off. Then he threw a tantrum with staff, and passengers were told something was wrong.
“After the incident his band members were still on the flight. They started kicking off, too, shouting that they couldn’t play without him because he’d been thrown off.”
