5 Songs We’re Hyped To See George Ezra Play Live On His Aus Tour

We’re just days away from UK singer-songwriter sensation George Ezra kicking off his 2019 tour of Australia. He was here last year at the 2018 ARIAs, wowing a veritable who’s who of music with one of the biggest songs of the year – ‘Shotgun’ – and now he’s back and ready to embark on his biggest tour of the country to date.

Here are five songs we simply can’t wait to see him perform.

Budapest

‘Budapest’ has arguably been Ezra’s biggest success in Australia so far. It’s certainly his most streamed song on Spotify, with over 450 million streams, and rightly so. Get ready to put your arms around the person next to you, hold up your lighter or phone torch, and sway the night away accompanied by Ezra’s flawless falsetto.

Blame It On Me

If he doesn’t close his show with ‘Shotgun’, the next obvious choice is this absolute banger of a singalong. ‘Blame It On Me’ peaked at #1 on the ARIA Charts in the summer of 2014/15, and it is a truly a proper summer singalong. Imagine thousands of others signing that refrain “what you waiting for, what you waiting for?” over and over again. Well we’re waiting for George, and luckily we won’t be waiting much longer.

Hold My Girl

Sometimes it’s easy to get so caught up in the catchy melodies of George Ezra’s music that you forget how accomplished his voice is without all that production. ‘Hold My Girl’ is a beautifully stripped back tune that really sees the UK singer’s natural vibrato and vocal power come to the fore. We can see this one acting as the perfect prelude to one of his bigger tunes.

Paradise

Not everything can be a soulful singalong, and lucky for us, George Ezra has plenty of up-beat crackers as well. ‘Paradise’ is driven along by some heavier guitars and will get you up and out of your seat. In true Ezra-style, there’s a refrain that anyone can pick up that builds back up to that glorious chorus once again. It’ll be feeling like paradise, just hook it to our veins thanks.

Shotgun

Need we say more? Not only has ‘Shotgun’ been the soundtrack to the 2018/19 Aussie summer (he may not have written it for us, but who hasn’t ridden shotgun underneath the hot sun?), but it’s just so bloody catchy. There’s a reason why the single reached #1 on the Australian single charts and spent five consecutive weeks in the top spot. Without getting too deep into the mechanics of the track, it’s in the perfect key for anyone with any sense of tune to sing along. Who wouldn’t want to be serenaded by those dulcet tones at a big concert? The best part (or worst depending on your point of view) is that if he closes with this one, you’ll be tapping your feet and humming that melody for days…
