Watch Miley Cyrus Cover A Nine Inch Nails Classic On ‘Black Mirror’

Black Mirror has staked its reputation on delivering mind-twisting shit, and its latest season is no exception.

Case in point: S05e03 entitled ‘Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too’, which features Miley Cyrus performing a rendition of Nine Inch Nails‘ classic ‘Head Like A Hole’ with an uncomfortable lyrical makeover.

Cyrus’s character, a popstar named Ashley O, gives the song a pop twist in the ep, which — according to the plot synopsis — is about “a lonely teen becomes obsessed with a robot doll based on her pop star idol”.

Also just FYI, the cover has been given the thumbs up by Trent Reznor himself.

Creator Charlie Brooker got the sample cleared by the NIN frontman personally before they went for it.

“Trent got it straight away,” Brooker revealed at a press conference (via Alt Press). “It was via email and he was really happy pretty quickly. He wanted to see the script and I got to re-write his lyrics in a chirpy way.

“I’m not the best lyricist in the world,” he continued. “In the first song she’s singing: ‘I’m stoked on ambition and verve’ instead of ‘You’re gonna get what you deserve’.”

Executive producer Annabel Jones added: “He thought it was very funny. He found the dark comedy very entertaining. There are lots of dark concepts in the film and we just enjoy that sort of childish subversion of them.”

Nine Inch Nails apparently frothed the collab so hard that they’ve created some new merch out of it — a tee that you can preorder right here.
