With his latest album, My Criminal Record, continuing to reap the praise of critics and fans around the country, Jimmy Barnes has a lot to be happy about with this release.
Most notably, perhaps, My Criminal Record has unlocked a new level of achievement for Barnes, climbing to the top of the ARIA Album Charts over the weekend, breaking an industry record. With this, Barnes’ sixteenth #1 album, the Aussie legend has beaten the likes of U2 and Madonna for the most #1 records held on the ARIA Albums Chart. Both U2 and Madonna previously held the joint record of 11 Australian #1’s apiece, but now that mantle has been handed over, well and truly.
The charting position of My Criminal Record makes 12 solo #1’s for Barnes, while he already held four #1 albums with Cold Chisel. The album has produced some of Barnes’ most personal work to date, and sits tight in amongst an already expansive body of work.
“Having this music strike a chord with people [therefore] feels particularly good.” Barnes has said. “I’m grateful to everyone who’s continued to support me over the years and I’m looking forward to screaming my thanks in person when I get back out on the road shortly.”
