Women in Australian music are set to to be recognised, their hard work and professional achievements celebrated nationally this October, as the Australian Women in Music Awards returns for another year.
Last year saw the inaugural year of the AWMAs take place at the Brisbane Powerhouse, where the likes of Amy Shark and Jen Cloher take home awards, while artists including Adalita, Katie Noonan and Emily Wurramara put a spotlight on powerful performances throughout the event. As far as debut years go, the AWMAs made their presence known.
This year, the awards introduce three new categories – Excellence in Classical Music, Music Journalist Award, Excellence in Image Making – with the nominations for 2019 open from today. The winners, as with the AWMAs last year, will be decided by a panel of expert names.
Also returning for its second year running is the AWMAs Forum series, which comprises three panel sessions driven by industry leaders, covering visibility in hip hop, music and politics, and image making (in all its forms) in today’s music climate.
“We have so many wonderful people committed to the work we are doing,” AWMAs Founding Executive Director Vicki Gordon has said. “The AWMAs will keep getting bigger and more powerful; we are providing recognition for many women in the industry that have been ignored for far too long.
