While emo-pop singer Billie Eilish’s star continues to rise, some people simply can’t help themselves from objectifying the 17-year old musician.
As Cosmopolitan reports, a Twitter user re-posted a picture Eilish took with a fan while out and about, making the ~totally normal and not at all creepy~ comment that “Billie Eilish is THICK.” Worth reiterating, besides the obvious fact it’s a gross thing to say, is that Eilish is a 17-year old.
Additionally, Eilish has commented previously about wearing baggy clothes so as not to draw attention to her body. In a recent Calvin Klein commercial, Eilish says “I never want the world to know everything about me. I mean, that’s why I wear big, baggy clothes. Nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath, you know? Nobody can be like, ‘Oh, she’s slim-thick, she’s not slim-thick, she’s got a flat ass, she’s got a fat ass.’ No one can say any of that, because they don’t know.”
Twitter swiftly came to the singer’s defence. “1. she’s a minor. 2. this is the exact reason she doesnt [sic] wear tight clothes and always wears baggy tracksuits or whatever. have some fucking respect” replied one user.
“Regardless of if shes ‘legal in (your) country’ or not… (your words, not mine), the minute she shows a tiny bit of skin, you jump to objectify her. GTFO of here with that shit. She’s still young af and doesn’t need grown ass men perving it up”, wrote another.
It’s not the first instance of creepy behaviour Eilish has had to deal with from fans. Back in May, the musician took to her social media to ask fans to stop groping her at meet and greets while she was on tour here in Australia.
The two incidents are pretty good reminders of the kind of bullshit female artists are made to endure for having the audacity to exist in the public eye. If you’re thinking about sharing your thoughts on a total stranger’s body online, perhaps you could go ahead and delete it instead.
