Thom Yorke Shades Muse And Sam Smith, But Digs Billie Eilish In New Interview

If there’s a fanbase you don’t want to aggravate more than the Beyhive or the Swifties, it could well be the Musers. And Thom Yorke has done just that this week, in naming the British band as a reason he doesn’t follow music streaming recommendations.

Yorke, who is back in the press with the release of his third solo record ANIMA, was recently profiled by The Sunday Times, where the Radiohead frontman opened up on his own music tastes, his creative process and more.

When it comes to discovering new music via streaming platforms, York plainly stated that he doesn’t follow those algorithmic recommendations. “No. If you like this, you’ll like this, and then it gives me… MUSE.”

Slight burn.

When it comes to artists he is liking at the minute though, Yorke names Billie Eilish as one who has struck him positively.

“She’s doing her own thing.” he said in the interview. “Nobody’s telling her what to do.”

Recounting a recent Billie Eilish show he attended with his daughter and his girlfriend, Yorke noted that Sam Smith was also in attendance, who notably nabbed the theme song for Bond film Spectre after a Radiohead song was nixed.

“We sat down and what’s-his-name — the guy who did the Bond film we didn’t do? …He stands behind us, and I’m sitting with my daughter, her friends and my girlfriend, when suddenly everyone goes, “Saaam!” I’m, like, “Aaaargh!””

Keep on keeping on, Thom.
