The New Lil Nas X ‘Old Town Road’ Remix Has An Area 51-Themed Music Video

Whether you like it or not, the internet’s most resilient viral phenom marches on.

You may recall that last week, Lil Nas X dropped a new remix for his hit track ‘Old Town Road’, featuring rapper Young Thug along with the yodelling Walmart kid, Mason Ramsey. The track also celebrated its 15th week straight at #1 on the Billboard charts, and the likes of Mariah Carey and Smash Mouth all expressed keen interest in appearing in the inevitable new new remix.

Concurrent to all this happening, an extraterrestrial meme has sprung up in the form of a Facebook event, called “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All Of Us”, with roughly a million people digitally signing up to storm secretive American Air Force base. It eventually made it to Twitter, spawning a bevy of related memes.

Those not clued in to the nature of online comedy raised fears about the raid, and in a prime case of not getting it, the U.S. Air Force warned those considering raiding the base to stay home. All in all, it’s mostly just a pretty perfect example of the kind of absurdist – yet harmless – internet humour that is having a moment right now.

Now, Lil Nas has dropped an animated music video for the recent remix which features him, along with Billy Ray Cyrus, Young Thug and Ramsey, storming the base. Keanu Reeves is also in it.

Given that ‘Old Town Road’ emerged as something of a cultural meme, it makes sense that the two would collide in this meme-ception of sorts.
