Missy Elliott Is 2019’s Recipient Of MTV’s Video Vanguard Award

Missy Elliott basically defined the early 00’s with her unique take on hip-hop and her mind-bending music videos. Now, MTV is finally celebrating her impact and legacy by awarding her the Video Vanguard Award at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

The prestigious award is given to celebrate excellence in music videos, noting the influence an artist’s videos have had over the years. Recent recipients of the award include Beyoncé, Kanye West, Rihanna, P!NK and Jennifer Lopez.

“Missy’s impact on the music landscape is indelible,” head of music and music talent, Viacom and co-brand head at MTV International, Bruce Gillmer, said in a statement.

“Her creative vision across production, performance and songwriting is unmatched.”

Missy took to Twitter to thank MTV for the award.

“I am Humbly Grateful to be receiving the VideoVanguard Award,” Missy wrote on Twitter.

“I Thank my FANS “Supafriends” who fought diligently to see this day come.”

The 2019 MTV VMAs air Monday, 26th August.
