Azealia Banks Has Been Banned From Twitter…Again

Another day, another ‘Azealia Banks is causing controversy online once again’ story. The target this time? Anti-HIV medication PrEP and, in a bit of a sidebar, Frank Ocean.

This all started following the announcement of Frank Ocean’s new queer club night, titled PrEP+ and taking its namesake from the medication. While the night itself has drawn all sorts of criticism, Azealia Banks weighed in on her Instagram condemning the drug itself and Ocean for promoting it.

“There’s no reason you need to have a fucking pill so you can just fuck whoever you wanna fuck,” she said on her Instagram story over the weekend.

“The boys are still getting HIV. The girls are getting renal failure. They’re getting liver fucking failure, they’re getting anal warts, they’re getting anal cancer, okay? That’s a fucking death trap.”

“And for that dumbass…Frank Ocean to sit up there and fucking promote that to y’all gays like that’s something that y’all need? It’s evil.”

“Y’all stay off that fucking PrEP.”

Her statements have been widely condemned online, including by Years & Years lead singer Olly Alexander, who is gay, and took to Twitter to lead people to information about PrEP.

Banks retweeted Olly, saying “disgusting and dirty personal habits.”

“Ppl who take it are immoral and not to be trusted.”

Soon after the tweeted that, apparently, her account was suspended.

Ocean has yet to respond to Banks’ criticism of him, but he has responded to the larger backlash of his club night which you can read here.
