Jessica Mauboy & Tones And I Combine To Break 15-Year ARIA Chart Drought

It’s a historic week for solo female artists on Australia’s ARIA Charts, with Jessica Mauboy‘s new record HILDA debuting at #1 on the Albums Chart.

With Tones And I continuing her streak at the summit of the ARIA Singles Chart thanks to viral sensation ‘Dance Monkey’, there are now Australian solo females at the top of both charts for the first time in 15 years.

Back then, Missy Higgins occupied the top of the Singles Chart with ‘Scar’, while Paulini held the Albums Chart with her record One Determined Heart.

HILDA is just Mauboy’s second #1 on the chart, and first solo studio album to go top, after her soundtrack album The Secret Daughter (Songs From The TV Series).

Meanwhile, ‘Dance Monkey’ is now the equal second longest serving #1 in ARIA Singles Chart history.

This week the track racks up 13 weeks in the top spot, matching ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas X (2019), ‘Despacito’ by Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee (2017) and ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ by Coolio (1995/96).

Tones And I is now eyeing off the longest serving #1, set by Ed Sheeran with ‘Shape Of You’ which spent 15 weeks atop the chart in 2017. The latest charts can be viewed in full here.

Tones has a whopping eight nominations for the 2019 ARIA Awards as well. Check out the full list of nominees.
