Turns Out Prince Really Didn’t Like The Music Of Katy Perry Or Ed Sheeran

Prince‘s highly anticipated autobiography The Beautiful Ones is out this week, and some excerpts have been released that show the late icon’s opinion of the music of some of the biggest stars in the world.

Some letters have been unearthed from his notorious Paisley Park estate where he shared his dismay for the industry trying to “ram” the music of both Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran down our throats.

“We need to tell them that they keep trying to ram Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran down our throats,” he wroter.

“And we don’t like it no matter how many times they play it.” Tell them how you really feel.

The Guardian reports that the book was co-written with Dan Piepenbring, a superfan who was hand-chosen by Prince to help him construct the biography.

Piepenbring told the publication that he was overwhelmed by the amount of letters he found at Paisley Park.

“The sheer quantity of paper was surprising,” he said.

“There was no real method to the madness. In one room you’d find something from 1979, and within arm’s reach, there’d be something from 2002. There’d be these moments of intense intentionality — he’d gathered up all his handwritten lyrics from across his career, clipped them together and kept them in one place. Or he’d gathered artefacts pertaining to his father’s jazz band. It seemed very ad hoc and very personal.”

The Beautiful Ones is out now.
