Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever Announce New Album ‘Sideways To New Italy’

Melbourne’s Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever have announced their second album Sideways to New Italy will be released this June through Ivy League Records, following up 2018 debut Hope Downs.

To coincide, they’ve shared a video for new single ‘She’s There’, following ‘Cars in Space’ back in February. It’s a wistful love song that’s sonically spry and jangly, earmarked by the band’s lush, intertwining guitars and anchored by driving rhythms.

According to the band, Sideways to New Italy – a reference to a tiny town in regional New South Wales – sees Rolling Blackouts examining the notion of place and their own personal geographies after a long period on the road, having spent much of the past two years staring through aeroplane windows and the resultant dissolution of relationships and distance from regular life.

“I felt completely rudderless on tour,” explains the band’s Fran Keaney. “It’s fun but you get to a point where you’re like, Who am I anymore? You feel like you’re everywhere and nowhere at the same time. And no one in particular.”

Tom Russo echoes Keaney’s sentiment, saying “We saw a lot of the world, which was such a privilege, but it was kind of like looking through the window at other people’s lives, and then also reflecting on our own.”
