Are Powderfinger Planning Something? Fans Seem To Think So

UPDATE 14/05/20: Powderfinger Announce Special One-Off Reunion Performance

Original Story: It’s been roughly a decade since we heard much from Powderfinger, Aussie rock legends and unofficial mayors of Brisbane. The band’s last album was 2009’s Golden Rule, and they played their final show together at the Riverstage in their hometown in November 2010.

Now, however, fans have entered wild speculation mode after the band made a few updates to their social media channels. The band changed their profile picture and cover image on Facebook, and shared a link for people to sign up for updates.

While obviously none of those changes necessarily indicate something big is coming, that hasn’t stopped the band’s comment sections from flooding with fans suggesting the updates indicate some form of reunion.

“I’m totally reading into the band updating their Facebook profile & cover pics!!!!! I need some dreams at this point of lockdown,” wrote one fan.

“It’s on, I’m calling it, the band are back together, bring it boys,” wrote another.

Back in 2017, Powderfinger (sans drummer Jon Coghill) briefly reunited at Splendour in the Grass during frontman Bernard Fanning’s solo set, performing hits ‘(Baby I’ve Got You) On My Mind’ and ‘These Days’. Fanning later confirmed that the reunion was “absolutely a one-off”.

Apart from that, the last we really heard from Powderfinger was back in 2018, when the band shared a bevy of previously unheard material as part of the 20th anniversary re-release of third studio album Internationalist.

Are the Queensland legends planning something big? Or was it simply time to spruce up the socials? We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed and ears open.
