Listen to the First Posthumous Single From DMX, ‘Been to War’

A new song by the late, great DMX has been released following the rapper’s death earlier this month. ‘Been to War’ is the first posthumous single to be released following X’s death.

It was recorded for the Forest Whitaker-starring series Godfather of Harlem‘s second series, and also features X’s frequent collaborator Swizz Beats along with French Montana. Listen below.

X – real name Earl Simmons – passed away on Friday, 9th April after being hospitalised a week earlier following a cardiac arrest.

“Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart, and we cherish the times we spent with him,” the rapper’s family said at the time, adding that his music “inspired countless fans across the world, and his iconic legacy will live on forever”.

Swizz, who produced many of X’s hits including ‘Ruff Ryders Anthem’, ‘Party Up’, and much of 1998 sophomore album Flesh of My Blood, Blood of My Blood shared a touching tribute to the late rapper late last week.

“You ain’t ever seen him next to a Lamborghini… You ain’t ever seen him iced out with no jewellery, he did not care about any of that. He was the biggest. DMX was the biggest. And let me tell you why he was the biggest. He was the biggest because he prayed for everybody else, more than he did himself,” the producer said in a post on Instagram.

“That man suffered every day. That man suffered from the day that I known him. He suffered. When y’all heard his first song he was suffering. Know why he was suffering? Because he took everybody’s pain and made it his.”
