Rico Nasty Releases ‘Magic’ Remix Feat. Barkaa And MADAM3EMPRESS

US punk rapper Rico Nasty has recruited Malyangapa/Barkindji rapper Barkaa and Sydney-based South African artist MADAM3EMPRESS for the official remix of her single, ‘Magic’.

‘Magic’ was released in July and is set to appear on Rico’s upcoming seventh mixtape, Rx. The track features production from Alter Ego and Avedon who also worked on Rico’s debut album, Nightmare Vacation, which came out in December 2020.

The new remix comes with an original lyric video created by First Nations creative agency INCOMMON, led by creative director artist Sofii Mara.

Barkaa’s verse is incredibly positive. She addresses a significant other, telling them that, having been through hard times, it’s time to heal and shine together. “You can’t come close to this Blak love,” she says. “Always was, always will be, and that’s it for us.”

“It was such a mad opportunity to be able to jump on the remix of ‘Magic’ alongside MADAM3EMPRESS and to be able to show a softer side to myself,” Barkaa said in a statement. “It took me out of my comfort zone and made me think outside the box which was an experience for me as an artist.”

Barkaa released her latest solo single, ‘King Brown’, in July; MADAM3EMPRESS’s latest single, ‘Some Type Of Way’, came out in June.
