You read that correctly: actor, musician and DJ Idris Elba has teamed up with Sydney’s Lime Cordiale on the new single, ‘Apple Crumble‘.
‘Apple Crumble’ is the first taste of the unlikely pairing’s mini album Cordi Elba. The record is due for release on Friday, 14th January via Chugg Music and 7Wallace Music.
The budding partnership began in March when Lime Cordiale’s Oli and Louis Leimbach learned Elba was a fan of their music. Elba was in Sydney filming the Marvel film, Thor: Love And Thunder, which led to an introduction.
“We invited him into the studio to feature on a track. One track has now turned into many and we’ve got an exciting project in the works,” Oli said at the time.
Elba joined the band onstage at the Enmore Theatre in March, adding a new rap verse to ‘Unnecessary Things’, which originally appeared on last year’s 14 Steps to a Better You (Relapse).
The upcoming mini album was produced with Lime Cordiale’s longtime studio accomplice, David K Haddad. The Leimbachs describe it as a genuine case of cross-pollination. “We wrote everything together,” said Oli. “We were all writing lyrics – it wasn’t our music or his music, it was smack bang down the middle with every lyric.”
Lime Cordiale have also postponed their national headline tour until April–May 2022, and announced a third Sydney show. New dates below.
