Methyl Ethel Announce New Album ‘Are You Haunted?’, Share Stella Donnelly Collaboration

Jake Webb (aka Methyl Ethel) has announced his fourth studio album under the moniker will arrive next month, with are Are You Haunted? slated for release on Friday, 18th February via Future Classic.

“There are these spirits, memories of our old selves, our younger selves, parents, generations past whose deeds, actions, successes and failures shape us,” Webb explains of the album’s title and concept. “We all have these ghosts that linger in our present predicaments.”

Webb created the album at the studio of a friend who had recently passed away – the same studio he wrote and recorded some of the first Methyl Ethyl songs. “I spent many years of experimentation with him, learning so much looking over his shoulder. It feels special to continue to share the space with his ghost, I’m still learning from him,” he says.

Along with previously-released singles ‘Neon Cheap‘ and ‘Matters’Are You Haunted? will also feature ‘Proof’, a collaboration with fellow Western Australian songwriter Stella Donnelly that’s out today alongside a video directed by Webb himself. It’s a whirring synth-pop cut that sees Webb and Donnelly dissect the way objective truths, facts, and reality itself have been twisted into nebulous, fluid concepts by modern times.

“Stella is one of the most truth-telling artists I’ve ever heard. It made for a perfect match,” Webb said. Donnelly adds: “Working on ‘Proof’ with Jake felt like being invited to the set of your favourite movie, such an insightful and wonderful experience.”
