ONEFOUR have returned with a new single entitled ‘Gang Ties’, which sees them team up with Headie One. It marks the first collab between the two in four years, following on from the Western Sydney drill crew featuring on a remix of Headie’s ‘Ain’t It Different’ alongside Stormzy and AJ Tracey.
‘Gang Ties’ was produced by 99hurts, who has previously worked with acts such as Chillinit and Tommy Gunn. In a press statement, ONEFOUR explained that the song’s subject matter dealt with “brotherhoods that are formed to overcome the challenges that we often face”. “Whether it’s out of necessity or choice, we form ‘gang ties’ with people we relate to,” they said.
“Headie One has been one of our favourite UK rappers for time, so to have him feature on one of our songs is a big moment for us. [This is bringing] Western Sydney to the world.” Headie, for his part, praised ONEFOUR in his own statement – adding he has been “a fan of their music from afar”.
“When the opportunity came to do a track together, and I heard the theme of the song, it made sense to me,” he said. We share a lot of similarities in our upbringing, the environments we grew up in and the friendships in our communities. These things help make the song have more meaning.”
The music video for ‘Gang Ties’ was directed by the team of Matt Wilson and Trav Leslie, and was filmed on location in the group’s hometown of Mt. Druitt in Western Sydney. It can be viewed below.
