Two People Have Died At Burning Man 2026

Two people have died at Burning Man 2026 in separate circumstances, as the annual gathering enters its final day in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert.

The latest attendee to die has been identified by Burning Man organisers as Craigh Mann, 60, who was reportedly found dead by his campmates at around 3pm on Saturday, 5th September. No cause of death has been announced, with organisers offering their condolences to Mann’s loved ones and those affected by his passing.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the participant’s family, friends, campmates, and all those affected by this loss,” Burning Man Project said in a statement.

Mann’s death came two days after another festival attendee, a man reportedly in his mid-50s, died following a medical emergency at Black Rock City.

According to organisers, emergency personnel performed lifesaving measures before transporting the man to Burning Man’s onsite emergency care centre, where he was pronounced dead.

His identity has not been publicly released.

Pershing County Sheriff Coroner Jerry Allen said there were no apparent signs of external foul play, with the man’s final cause of death still pending.

No connection between the two deaths has been reported.

Burning Man organisers have made around-the-clock peer and crisis-support resources available to attendees affected by the deaths.

The fatalities come amid a difficult edition of the annual desert gathering, with extreme weather and several other incidents impacting this year’s event.

Heavy rain reportedly turned parts of the Black Rock Desert playa to mud on Friday, temporarily shutting Burning Man’s entrance and exit, while dust storms have also caused disruptions throughout the event.

Elsewhere, an attendee was seriously injured earlier in the week after reportedly falling from the 55-foot Nest Tower at the Square One camp.

Authorities had also reported 34 arrests for alleged drug sales or trafficking as of Friday morning, alongside an arrest related to domestic violence.

Burning Man 2026 is scheduled to conclude today, Monday, 7th September.
