A group of punters too eager to wait for 1st August have been duped into buying fake Stereosonic tickets on the classifieds website Gumtree.
No price for tickets to the event has been set, but with no one-day passes available to the first-ever two-day Stereosonic, and the genuinely massive lineup on offer this year it’s a safe bet that legitimate tickets will be more than the $70 the fake ones are being sold for.
Stereosonic promoter Totem OneLove‘s brand manager John Curtin spokesperson confirmed the availability of industry pre-sale tickets to The Sydney Morning Herald, but claimed that they’re prohibited from being sold online:
“Industry tickets are available via an exclusive trusted network of people around the country. This network is a registered group of ticket promoters who sell hand to hand tickets on behalf of Stereosonic.”
Promoter Totem OneLove‘s brand manager John Curtin claimed, “We are constantly searching and reporting on online selling sites.” But the vigilance of Curtin’s group won’t help the disappointed revellers who forked over cash for the phoney tickets.
Splendour in the Grass have this year done an excellent job of deterring scalpers, offering an official ticket resale service as well as printing names on tickets, with identification required at the gate.
Perhaps potential Stereosonic punters should heed Curtin’s advice: “if something is too good to be true it often is.”
