If you thought the enormous lineup for Sydney Festival 2014 couldn’t get any better, you’d be all kinds of wrong. Organisers today announced that Mick Turner, Cat Power and more will join previously announced headliners Chaka Khan, Amanda Palmer, Lee Ronaldo and Mike Patton.
Big Star’s Third, a special tribute to Big Star‘s Third/Sister Lovers LP, will see some familiar faces taking the stage to play through the acclaimed album, namely the aforementioned Ms Power, as well as Tim Rogers, Kim Salmon, and Dave Faulkner.
They’ll be joining Jody Stephens (Big Star), Mike Mills (R.E.M.), Ken Stringfellow (The Posies), Mitch Easter (Let’s Active), and Chris Stamey (The dB’s), as well as previously announced act Edwyn Collins, best known for his garage pop hit A Girl Like You.
Cat Power, real name Chan Marshall, will also play two of her own headlining sets at the Circus Ronaldo Tent on Friday, 24th January, while legendary Dirty Three guitarist Mick Turner will be joined by his full band to play the same venue on Thursday, 23rd January.
Sydney Festival runs from Thursday, 9th January to Sunday, 26th January – you can take a look at the full first announcement here.
