Kim Jong-il Dead Aged 69

North Korea’s dictator, Kim Jong Il, died on Saturday aged 69 of ‘physical and mental over-work’, BBC reports. The announcement was read out on North Korean national television. His death is set to send shockwaves across North Korea and South Korea’s military has been put on emergency alert.

Kim Jong Il was a second-generation North Korean dictator who was hated for building nuclear weapons while his people starved.

He was said to be a huge film fan, owning a collection of more than 20,000 video tapes and DVDs. His favourite movie included Friday the 13th, Rambo, Godzilla and ‘any movie starring Elizabeth Taylor’. He once kidnapped a film director and his wife and ordered them to help him build the North Korean Film industry.

His son Kim Jong-un is the likely successor but nothing has been officially announced of yet.
