Kim Gordon Announces Debut Solo Album, Shares Video For New Song ‘Sketch Artist’

Kim Gordon has announced her debut solo album No Home Record will be released Friday, 11th October via Matador/Remote Control.

Coinciding with the announcement is a video for new track ‘Sketch Artist’, directed by Loretta Fahrenholz. The song is a pulsating, jagged cut, and the video sees the former Sonic Youth member command a haunted car ride.

“Kim drives as “Unter” Pool summons passengers throughout nighttime LA. The city drifts by, passengers intermingle in the back seat and Kim’s deadly stare shocks pedestrians along her route,” says Fahrenholz about the clip, which includes a cameo by Broad City star Abbi Jacobson.

No Home Record, which takes its name from Belgian director Chantal Akerman’s film No Home Movie, was recorded at Sphere Ranch in Los Angeles and produced by Justin Raisen. Along with ‘Sketch Artist’, the album will include 2016 single ‘Murdered Out’ and seven other tracks.

Since the dissolution of Sonic Youth, Gordon has been mainly occupied with Body/Head, her collaborative project will Bill Nace. They released most recent album The Switch earlier this year.

“Why a solo record? And why now? I don’t know, but it wouldn’t have happened without the persistence of Justin Raisen,” said Gordon said about No Home Record.

“Living in L.A. the last few years, it feels like home, but the transience of the place makes it feel sometimes like no home.”
