Man Behind ‘KONY 2012’ Campaign Loses It, Gets Naked In Public

Jason Russell, the man behind the viral ‘KONY 2012‘ campaign and the Invisible Children organisation, has been detained for allegedly masturbating in public and vandalising cars. According to TMZ, Russell has now been hospitalised on a 5150 psychiatric hold while his mental state is assessed.

Reports suggest Russell was dancing around on the street in his underwear before removing all his clothing and making sexual gestures.

The CEO of the Invisible Children has made the following statement:

Jason Russell was unfortunately hospitalized yesterday suffering from exhaustion, dehydration, and malnutrition…He is now receiving medical care and is focused on getting better. The past two weeks have taken a severe emotional toll on all of us, Jason especially, and that toll manifested itself in an unfortunate incident yesterday.

Jason’s passion and his work have done so much to help so many, and we are devastated to see him dealing with this personal health issue. We will always love and support Jason, and we ask that you give his entire family privacy during this difficult time.

Police have said there are no plans to charge Russell with a crime.

The ‘Kony 2012‘ campaign went viral on the internet earlier in March. The 29-minute documentary is titled after the infamous leader of the Ugandan guerrilla group LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army). It depicts a war-torn child, named Jacob, who is a former LRA child soldier, and his struggle for awareness about the issues that Joseph Kony has caused.
