The news that Bluejuice, one of Australia’s most beloved and irreverent homegrown bands, would be breaking up at the end of 2014 came as a shock to many Aussie music lovers. To help us cope a little better, Music Feeds caught up with singer Stavros Yiannoukas and got the inside story.
“Our manager had a conversation with us months ago, he’d got an email from Grinspoon’s manager saying their band was breaking up. And he thought it was a weird way to finish-up when you’ve been around for so long. So he thought it would be better for us to… go out on a high,” Stav explains.
“I had mentioned us finishing up after Act Your Age and the album company… people weren’t really ready for that,” Stavros reveals. “But no, [breaking up] hadn’t really been discussed. I don’t know many bands that actually talk about it along the way. We’re just not that well-planned,” he adds.
We also discuss the band’s upcoming retrospective album — the aptly titled Retrospectable out this September — their farewell tour, going platinum without knowing it, and what the members of Bluejuice will be doing after the farewell tour comes to its inevitable and unfortunate end.
