PREMIERE: Georgia Fields’ ‘Holding My Hands Out’ Is A Quiet Anthem

Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Georgia Fields will release the new single ‘Holding My Hands Out’ this Friday, 17th June. We’re premiering it on Music Feeds.

‘Holding My Hands Out’ is a taste of Fields’ upcoming third full-length album Hiraeth. It’s been a long time between drinks for Fields, whose second album, Astral Debris, came out in 2016. The artist describes ‘Holding My Hands Out’ as a song about the primal desire to be held. “It’s about reaching your hands out for comfort, but grasping at shadows,” said Fields.

Fields took stylistic inspiration from artists such as Sarah Blasko, Weyes Blood and Sharon Van Etten, citing their knack for crafting “simple yet anthemic choruses” as a guiding influence. ‘Holding My Hands Out’ also possesses a literary bent.

“I was hugely impacted by the novel Islands by Australian author Peggy Frew,” said Fields. “There’s something about Peggy’s writing that cuts straight to my heart – I’ve found all her novels deeply affecting.” In fact, ‘Holding My Hands Out’ is partly written from the perspective of Frew’s character, June, and June’s mother, Helen.

Fields created the track’s music video in partnership with director and cinematographer Rohan Spong. It’s their eleventh time working together, and the ongoing collaboration continues to yield positive results.

“Something very special happens when I hand a song over to Rohan,” said Fields. “His visual interpretation of my music always reveals a deeper understanding of my own songs back to me. I rarely present a video concept; I’m always keen to hear what the song sparks in his mind’s eye.”
