Adelaide indie kids The Winter Gypsy know how to craft a wistful, dreamy tune and, then, turn the feels up to 11 with similarly melancholic visuals, as is evident by the new video for single ‘Bojke’, premiering here today.
‘Bojke’ (prounouced ‘boy-ke’) takes its name from a beloved family dog, explains The Winter Gypsy vocalist Tushar Singh. “The title is an ode to our bassist and his brother’s dog who passed away this year; her name was Bojke.”
While Singh had already penned the song, its lyrics, he says, took on new meaning following Bojke’s passing. “I instantly linked Bojke to the lyrics in this song and it was strange but so fitting as to how much these lyrics I had written weeks in advance had related to the incident. I asked the two brothers if I could name the song after her, and they said yes.”
The video for ‘Bojke’ plays on the song’s wistful sentiment, following two masked friends going about their day together. “The entire clip is demonstrating a bond or friendship between the pair, and it follows the two masked people hanging out casually; almost as if you were watching their day to day life. Everything flows smoothly until the climax,” explains Singh, cryptically.
