Soulfly – The heavier it gets

It’s metal smashing against metal and at its finest. Soulfly are roaring across the Pacific to our shorelines with a monster of a set and I’m telling you now, this isn’t a show to be missed. Metal fan or not, Max Cavalera (lead singer) explains the power behind Soulfly and the effect of their latest album Omen.

“We’ve been starting to play a lot of new stuff on the tour.” Says Cavalera. “Rise Of The Fallen was the first single from Omen (latest album), the reaction from the crowd has been fantastic. Like, the heavier it gets the more they get into it, and I just couldn’t be happier.” The track, Cavalera explains, which features Dillinger Escape Plan’s headman Greg Puciato, pulls you into the mass explosion of guitar strumming and the roaring voices from both Cavalera and Puciato; a structure of metal stimulation.

We’ve got a real killer set list now with an hour and a half. We play everything from all the seven albums,” explains Cavalera, “plus some old favourite classic Sepultura that I’ll always play, and some Nailbomb. It’s a really killer set list; it should be really good for anyone who’s a fan of my stuff.”

Soulfly’s last visit to Aus was with Megadeth. Now bringing along their soul-ride Australian journey is Canadian heavy’s City Of Fire and Incite from the US. An all-international act, set out to destroy our stages, let alone a slight ring to our ear drums.

We’re also going to be playing some obscure stuff too. I also know that Burt (City Of Fire) is on the bill singing for City of Fire and he did back up vocals for Eye For An Eye from the first Soulfly, so there’s a chance of a jam session, I hope – if I can talk Burt into it, and coming on the stage and singing with us on the Australian shows, that’ll be really cool.”

Fresh from touring all over Europe, it’s been a small three-week break back home in the US for Cavalera and his Soulfly crew. Their emotions build for preparation, only to be very eager on flying down here to Australia and getting back on stage. Feeling hungrier then ever, Soulfly will certainly play like there’s no tomorrow.
