Alexisonfire, The Roundhouse – 08/10/2010

A second visit this year for Canadian Alexisonfire brought another sell out show. The band’s popularity has increased since the release of Old Crows/Young Cardinals last year. Starting off tonight’s set with Young Cardinals, the band launched themselves into a blistering set with a number of cuts from the Old Crows/Young Cardinals record along with fan favourite older material such as Boiled Frogs and set closer Happiness By The Kilowatt.

The blend of Dallas’ clean melodic vocals with George’s screaming hardcore voice is what makes Alexisonfire’s sound unique and live, and carries the songs well without the polish of production. The band rarely paused for breath, to the exhaustion of the kids in the pit, for this all ages show. The only respite came when Dallas had to leave the stage and was encouraged back on by the chanting crowd.

The encore featured Midnight Oil’s The Dead Heart, which the band recorded for a limited edition tour EP, and the magnificent hymnal The Northern. The band’s strong following continues to push Alexisonfire into playing great shows in appreciation of support. The crowd was hyped and the band were way more animated than when I saw them at Soundwave this year. Hopefully a new album will surface soon and rest assured they will return again next year.
