FBi Radio has announced the nominees for its annual Sydeny Music, Arts & Culture Awards (SMAC) celebrating Sydney’s biggest and brightest talent in music.
The community radio station will award acts over 11 categories which include music, art and food.
The big one is Record Of The Year which has six nominees in the category covering local legends and bright newcomers. Hermitude‘s Dark Night Sweet Light has picked up a nomination alongside Gang Of Youths‘ The Positions, Little May‘s For The Company, Royal Headache‘s High and Tuka‘s Life Death Time Eternal. Sampa The Great has also been included fresh off the release of her debut mixtape The Great Mixtape.
Interestingly none of these acts have been nominated for Best Song. Instead those honours have gone to Gordi, Cosmo’s Midnight, Shining Bird, Angie and Big White.
Of course, FBi is always looking out for fresh talent and they’ve gathered together the best of that in the Next Big Thing category. Vallis Alps, Gordi, Sampa The Great, World Champion and B Wise are all part of the worthy crop who all look set for big things in 2016.
You will be able to have your say and vote for the winners. Public voting opens today and will close on 18th December. The winner will be crowned Tuesday, 12th January.
The SMAC Awards will this year, for the first time, be accompanied by a festival featuring many of the nominated artists like Cosmo’s Midnight, Tuka, Vallis Alps and B Wise. The festival will take place at Carriageworks on Sunday, 10th January.
