A$AP Rocky Has Been Charged With Assault In Sweden, Will Remain In Custody Until Trial

A$AP Rocky has been charged with assault, along with two others, for his involvement in an altercation in Stockholm, Sweden late last month.

The rapper was arrested as footage emerged of Rocky and crew engaging in a street fight in Stockholm, with Rocky seen throwing a man to the ground. The fight apparently broke out after a pair of men approached Rocky over a pair of their headphones he’s alleged to have broken.

A$AP Ferg later posted that the rapper was being held in solitary confinement without visit or phone call privileges.

Public prosecutor Daniel Suneson of the City Public Prosecution Office has said “I have today commenced criminal proceedings against the three individuals suspected of assault causing actual bodily harm, having come to the conclusion that the events in question constitute a crime and despite claims of self defence and provocation,” according to Rolling Stone.

“In reaching this conclusion, I have studied the videos made available to the inquiry. It is worth noting that I have had access to a greater amount of material than that which has previously been available on the internet. In addition to video material, the injured party’s statements have been supported by witness statements.”

A$AP Rocky and associates will be held in custody until the trial date, which has not yet been confirmed.

As reported, Rocky shared videos following the incident which show him and crew asking the men to walk away, to no avail. In one of the videos, a woman is heard telling Rocky’s crew that the men groped her and her girlfriend. “We don’t know these guys and we didn’t want trouble, they followed us for 4 blocks, and they were slapping girls butts who passed, give me a break” wrote Rocky in one of the video’s captions.

Prosecutors have declined to press charges against the two men.

A number of fellow rappers and artists have called for Rocky’s release, including Tyler the Creator and Post Malone. Kanye and Kim Kardashian West reportedly lobbied American president Donald Trump about Rocky’s case.
