American Idol winner Adam Lambert has announced that he will be the new voice of Queen. In a report published by Daily Star Lambert stated that “The intention is to pay tribute to Freddie and the band by singing some fucking great songs,” he said. “It’s to keep the music alive for the fans and give it an energy that Freddie would’ve been proud of.”
Lambert was joined on-stage by surviving Queen members in the 2009 American Idol final, playing the Queen sporting anthem We Will Rock You and playing The Show Must Go On at the 2011 EMA’s. However, Lambert acknowledges that he cannot replace Freddy Mercury and has no intention to, “That’s impossible,” he said. “The way I’m choosing to view it is that it’s a great honor and one I’m in no way going to shirk.”
This somewhat controversial replacement singer has caused much discussion on the internet, with fans being split down the middle on this agenda. However, Lambert’s vocal range does come close to Mercury’s, it is acknowledged by both Lambert and Queen that the band will never be the same without their deceased frontman, however to quote Queen themselves, “The show must go on”
