AJ Maddah Says Nine Inch Nails Turned Down Soundwave For A More “Sophisticated Audience”

The Soundwave 2014 announce has been and gone, and many were surprised by the absence of Nine Inch Nails, who were strongly rumoured to headline the festival. According to promoter extraordinaire AJ Maddah, the industrial legends turned down the gig because they want a more “sophisticated fanbase.”

It had been suggested that Maddah was close to securing the Closer outfit in the lead-up to the announce, but he’s now taken to Twitter (surprise!) to hit out against the band, saying, “Trent wants to be mainstream now and reach Justin Timberlake’s audience… it feels sad he no longer wants ‘goths and people in black’.” You can check out screencaps of his rant below.

This isn’t the first time Nine Inch Nails have let down their fans this week, revealing the highly disappointing filler track Everything on Zane Lowe‘s BBC Radio One show this week. However, every other taste of their upcoming eighth studio album, Hesitation Marks, has been highly excellent, so we’re gonna give them the benefit of the doubt.

Hesitation Marks is released in Australia on Friday, 30th August.
