Alexisonfire Share First Taste Of ‘Otherness’, Their First Album in 13 Years

More than a decade since their most recent studio LP, Canadian screamo heroes Alexisonfire have announced their fifth studio album is coming this year. The new album, Otherness, will be released on Friday, 24th June, via Dine Alone Records/Cooking Vinyl Australia.

The album’s lead single, ‘Sweet Dreams Of Otherness’, is out now. The band’s classic lineup remains intact, featuring lead vocalist George Pettit, rhythm guitarist/clean vocalist Dallas Green, lead guitarist Wade MacNeil, bass player Chris Steele and drummer Jordan Hastings.

This group of five carried out Alexisonfire’s farewell tour in 2012. But the split didn’t last and by mid-2015, Alexisonfire were touring again. The last few years have brought us the singles ‘Familiar Drugs’ and ‘Complicit’ (both 2019), and ‘Season of the Flood’ (2020).

Otherness was produced by Fucked Up drummer Jonah Falco, who has also produced for Chubby & the Gang and Chain of Flowers. Of ‘Sweet Dreams of Otherness’, Pettit said, “This song was largely Dallas’ brainchild, but over the course of writing this record it became more of a mission statement for the band. It’s kind of about performance and embracing a newfound confidence in a state of peculiarity.”

Green is known for his work under the alias City and Colour. MacNeil is the lead vocalist of British hardcore band Gallows. Watch the ‘Sweet Dreams of Otherness’ music video below.
