Alice In Chains, Down, Walking Papers Sidewaves Announced

Following the news that heavy metal monoliths Mastodon, Gojira, and Baroness will be playing a triple bill together, Soundwave organisers have now given fans of heavy music one better, announcing that grunge icons Alice In Chains will play Sidewaves with Down and Walking Papers.

Way back in October, Alice In Chains guitarist and the band’s primary songwriter Jerry Cantrell revealed to Triple M that the band would be playing sideshows, saying, “I think we’re playing a couple of shows on our own,” with AJ Maddah later confirming the news via Twitter.

Of course Maddah didn’t happen to mention that the giants behind anthems such as Man In The Box, Would?, and Rooster would be playing with New Orleans’ most beloved heavy metal veterans, Down, whose ranks feature the unmistakable voice of former Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo.

If that’s not enough to leave you with tinnitus for the rest of the week, rounding out the night’s considerable roster will be the much-awaited Walking Papers, a new hard rock project brought to you by former Screaming Trees drummer Barrett Martin and the one and only Duff McKagan.

This will be an evening of riffage that no self-respecting metalhead is going to want to miss. Alice In Chains, Down and Walking Papers will be playing just two shows, kicking off Tuesday, 25th February at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre and closing Thursday, 27th February at The Palace, Melbourne.
