ABC live music series The Sound returns this weekend with a froth-worthy lineup that includes Amy Shark performing a stripped-back rendition of latest single ‘Everybody Rise’ from the Sydney Opera House, along with John Butler, Boy & Bear, Angie McMahon, Gordi and more.
This week’s episode, airing Sunday 5.30pm with an encore the following Saturday at 12.30pm, will be hosted as usual by Jane Gazzo with music news by Zan Rowe. This week, they’ll by joined by a special guest – Skyhooks legend and media presenter Red Symons.
This week’s episode will see folk-rockers Boy & Bear performing 2015’s ‘Limit of Love’, Melbourne singer-songwriter Angie McMahon performing her new single exclusively for the show, rapper Dallas Woods, and introducing young Indigenous songwriter Scott Darlow, who’ll perform his track ‘You Can’t See Black in the Dark’ alongside Birds of Toyko/Karnivool frontman Ian Kenny.
“Watching new artists play on music TV shows was such an important part of my upbringing – rage, Recovery, and the rest,” commented Gordi, who’ll be performing from her recent album Our Two Skins. “I’ve been missing playing shows for audiences and I’m sure fans are craving live music more than ever. I’m thrilled The Sound is able to bring everyone a little closer.”
Launching earlier this month, The Sound‘s two previous episodes have seen stunning performances from the likes of DMA’S, Paul Kelly, The Teskey Brothers and more. Filmed and created by Mushroom Vision, the weekly series showcases some of the country’s most exciting artists through exclusive, pre-recorded live performances along with collaborations and interviews.
Upon its announcement, Mushroom Group head Michael Gudinski commented, “I’m incredibly excited to realise my dream to see a music show featuring contemporary Australian music in a prime spot on free-to-air television.”
“I’m thrilled that ABC, the home of iconic programs like Countdown, Recovery and rage, have partnered with us to support local music in such difficult times.”
