Andre 3000 & Big Boi To Release Solo Albums Before New Outkast LP

Amidst the announcement of their mammoth 40 music festival appearances this year, rumours of a new Outkast album have swarmed. While ex-manager Queen Latifah recently took back her claims that the pair were in the studio, another Outkast associate has speculated the duo will first release solo projects, before working on an Outkast comeback record.

According to REVOLT, the group’s longtime producer Mr. DJ says Andre 3000 and Big Boi have been recording tracks for respective solo projects at their frequent workspace, Stankonia Studios in Atlanta. The producer also believes that Andre will drop his solo debut this year.

Mr. DJ said Big Boi also has enough material for what would be his third solo album and speculates the upcoming Outkast 40-date festival run should help the duo rekindle their creative relationship. “I get the feeling that the energy and camaraderie from the tour will bring everything full circle,” he told REVOLT.

“We may make it back in for an album following that,” he added. The producer expects the newly-reformed Outkast will complete their festival tour, drop solo projects and then get back in the studio to record a highly anticipated new Outkast project.

REVOLT broke the news of Outkast’s 2014 reunion tour last year. Their festival run is in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Outkast’s debut record Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik. They’ll begin with a headlining appearance at Coachella in April and have announced a June appearance at New York City’s Governors Ball.

The group has not yet revealed where else they will perform, leading to brewing speculation that the twosome will announce an Australian tour date, possibly gracing the Splendour In The Grass 2014 stage with their presence.

Music Feeds will keep you up to date with all those details as they come to hand.
