André 3000 is Releasing His Debut Solo Album This Week

Outkast’s André 3000 has announced the release of his debut solo album, New Blue Sun. It’s scheduled to drop this Friday, 17th November. It’s 17 years since Outkast’s most recent album, Idlewild, and more than five years since 3000’s debut solo EP, Look Ma No Hands.

The rapper, singer and multi-instrumentalist revealed the news via a post on his Instagram page, which included the caption, “André 3000 New Blue Sun November 17 2023”.

André 3000’s debut solo album will feature no vocals

In an interview with NPR, 3000 confirmed New Blue Sun will feature no vocals. Instead, the 48-year-old iconoclast has tried his hand at a variety of flutes.”I’m expecting anything just like y’all. I didn’t know I’d be playing a flute,” he said.

There’ll be contrabass flute, Mayan flute, bamboo flute and other digital wind instruments. “I don’t want to troll people,” the artist said. “I don’t want people to think, ‘Oh, this André 3000 album is coming!’ And you play it and like, ‘Oh man, no verses.'”

The album will feature contributions from Carlos Niño on percussion, Nate Mercereau on guitar, and Surya Botofasina on keyboards.
