Annual ‘Cliff Burton Day’ Announced In Honour Of Late Metallica Legend

Metallica fans will come together to celebrate Cliff Burton this month, with February 10th to henceforth be known as ‘Cliff Burton Day’ in honour of the late bass legend.

It comes following a Change.org petition, which garnered a huge amount of support to recognise Burton’s birthday in his hometown of California’s Castro Valley.

“IT’S OFFICIAL!” Metallica announced on Instagram. “The Board of Supervisors from Alameda County has just proclaimed February 10, 2018, which would have been Cliff’s 56th birthday, ‘Cliff Burton Day’.

“Thanks to all of the fans who got behind this initiative”, they continued. “We’d like to send our appreciation and respect to all of you who continue to honor Cliff in your own personal ways.”

The beloved bassist, who performed on Metallica’s first three albums, died in a tour bus crash in 1986 while the band were on the road promoting Master Of Puppets.

The inaugural Cliff Burton Day will fall on what would have been the musician’s 56th birthday.

RIP Cliff.
