Aussie U2 Fans Are Petitioning To Bring The ‘Joshua Tree’ Anniversary Tour Down Under

UPDATE: U2 Say They’re “Absolutely” Going To Tour Australia Soon

ORIGINAL STORY: U2 haven’t toured Australia since 2010, and with their current Joshua Tree 30th Anniversary Tour still missing Aussie tour dates, local fans have launched a petition calling for the group to make their way down under.

A Change.org petition created by Sydney U2 fan Naomi Dinnen is gaining traction after Bono and company recently added new American and South American shows (but no Aussie shows!) to their current tour, which has already made its way through Europe and some of North America.

“U2 are touring the world to celebrate The Joshua Tree turning 30. Well most of the world,” Dinnen says. “They keep adding more dates but none for Australia and NZ so we’re calling on them to change that. Please come to Australia now U2!!”

Michael Coppel, Chairman of U2’s Australian promoter Live Nation, has told News Corp Australia that there are currently no local venues on hold for the band.

“I’ll be seeing them in a few weeks in the US, I’ll be interested to see what their mindset is,” Coppel said. “They’re still bedding the show down, but I think they’re more taken by it than they thought they would be. Anyone who wants to see them in Australia should agitate as hard as possible.”

U2’s The Joshua Tree anniversary tour has seen the band play the 1987 album in full, including songs like ‘Where The Streets Have No Name’, ‘Bullet The Blue Sky’, ‘With Or Without You’ and ‘I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For’, as well as a bunch of their other hits.

U2 brought their 360° tour to Australia back in 2010, but their 2015 Innocence And Experience tour only hit Europe and North America. They released their latest album Songs Of Innocence in 2014, and recently released a 30th anniversary edition of The Joshua Tree.

Dinnen’s Change.org petition currently has over 400 supporters at the time of writing.
