US metal icons Avenged Sevenfold have returned with a new single called The Stage.
The track is the result of months of teasing, which culminated in a series of the band’s deathbat logos popping up in cities around the world, including Toronto, London, Berlin and more.
The Stage (below) is an absolute shredder of a tune, with the band seemingly throwing back to their older sound evident on records like 2005’s City Of Evil.
The release has also come with a new music video, which features a creepy puppet show in a super-weird circus tent. Throughout the clip, the puppets enact scenes of death throughout mythology and history, and there’s even a twist ending.
While the band are yet to officially announce a forthcoming album, a now-deleted Instagram post from their good friend Chris Jericho (below) mentions the name Voltaic Oceans, and if you type that name into the band’s online Deathbot it appears to confirm the title, responding with, “I bet you feel like the smartest ape.”
Watch the video for The Stage below, alongside that deleted Instagram post, which also appears to suggest some form of release date.
