Harlem rapper Azealia Banks has used her ever-erratic Twitter account to vent concerns over racism in the US, and has done so by straight-up abusing Australian-born rapper Iggy Azalea, calling her “Igloo Australia” and a “wannabe black girl”.
As Billboard point out, Banks began venting her frustration after a jury decided not to indict an NYPD officer who was involved in the apparent choke-hold death of African-American man Eric Garner.
“Y’all know I’m gonna be ranting about race issues for the next few days again right??” Banks posted on Twitter, before turning to Iggy, calling out the Aussie export’s public silence on the events in New York.
“It’s funny to see people like Igloo Australia silent when these things happen… Black culture is cool, but black issues sure aren’t huh?” Banks tweeted, and it just got more and more vitriolic from there. Banks even suggested that Iggy is moving in on turf belonging to Nicki Minaj.
“That wannabe black girl shit makes me wanna throw a jar of my piss at her LMFAOOOO,” Banks wrote, before publishing a couple of now-deleted tweets (screenshots below) adapting lyrics from a famous Christmas carol to suggest the presence of racism.
While there’s no public history of Banks and Azalea being at odds, Iggy has been dissed by other artists, including Californian MC Madd Mary, who laid down a brutal diss track called Eff Iggy in July. Then there was that “rape whistle” lyric from Eminem.
Iggy Azalea has since responded to Banks’ words, posting on Twitter, “We’ve all read the script 49584068408540 billion times now, find a new game plan.”
