Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino Shuts Down Comments About Her “Bitchy” Stage Demeanour

If you’re thinking about heckling Best Coast frontwoman Bethany Cosentino about cats at Splendour In The Grass, don’t expect a response.

The singer took to Twitter to post an open letter responding to criticism that she’s seemed “bitchy” or “bummed out” on stage of late.

“When I started Best Coast I was 23 years. I was awkward, I was confused, I had 0 idea how to carry myself. I am now a few months away from turning 29 and I can honestly say that I feel the most confident I have every felt in my life,” she wrote.

She further explained that she’s a different person now and just because her stage banter has lessened it doesn’t mean she’s in a bad mood.

“If you yell something at me about cats and I don’t respond I’m not pissed – I just simply don’t feel like talking about cats in that current moment.”

Best Coast have come along way since their debut Crazy For You which featured a cat on the cover. The band released their third album California Nights this year, unveiling a distinctively mature sound.

They are due to touchdown in Australia next month for Splendour In The Grass and a few sideshows. If you find yourself missing Cosentino’s cat-quips at those shows she’s got some advice for you – “go on YouTube and find plenty of videos of me talking about cats and weed.”
