Big Day Out & headspace Partner For Band Competition, New Festival Stage

To commemorate their new partnership with Australia’s youth mental health foundation headspace, Big Day Out are rebranding the Red Stage as the headspace Stage, which will now be home to four winners of a new band competition launched today.

Bands interested in entering the competition, which is now open, are being directed to the official Big Day Out / headspace website. From there, interested parties can fill in the entry form, submit an original recording (no covers), an artist image along with a brief bio.

Grass roots marketing will play a key role in selecting the winner, and each band entered will be given a dedicated profile that they can plug, share and link to. A shortlist will be selected by the public, with a panel of music industry figures then choosing three winners, and the cats from Triple M choosing one.

The winners will then be given the opportunity to perform on the headspace Stage at every Australian Big Day Out show, their chance to steal the thunder from some of the world’s biggest bands including Pearl Jam, Blur and Arcade Fire.

Headspace have been responsible for some great music-related campaigns recently, including Rock N Ride which saw some of Australia’s favourite musicians riding across the country to create awareness for headspace’s cause.

Considering mental illness is one of the biggest problems facing Australia’s youth, and that 75% of serious mental health issues arise prior to the age of 25, headspace deserves as much attention as humanly possible.

All those who enter must be talented, dedicated, original and 15+. Entries close Friday, 25th October.
