Blondie’s Clem Burke Says Debbie Harry Might Quit Blondie

Legendary Blondie singer and rock & roll pin-up Debbie Harry is said to be retiring from music for good at the age of 68. Blondie member Clem Burke recently discussed the band’s future, saying it could be the end of Blondie.

“Debbie is 11 years older than the rest of us, so it’s on her mind,” said drummer Burke, in an interview with The Daily Mail. “We’ve tried to keep it going for as long as possible, but it’s not just up to me. Nothing is finalised yet, but obviously there’s no Blondie without Debbie Harry.”

The iconic New Wave band, who got their start along with The Ramones and Talking Heads in New York’s famed CBGB club, have consistently toured and released material for the last 40 years. Harry, the band’s iconic frontwoman has always been at the forefront.

A spokesperson for Harry has stated the band are “in a hiatus at the moment,” but that “They will do some tour dates next year. Nothing is confirmed yet.” The announcement has come as something of a shock to fans, as the band have been performing new material at their latest shows. The band also premiered a collaboration with Gossip frontwoman Beth Ditto in June 2013.
