Things haven’t kicked off as smoothly as everyone had hoped at Soundwave Sydney. Even though the weather gods decided to be kind and bless us with some amazing sun, the transport gods have not been so cool.
According to a tweet from The Lawrence Arm‘s Brendan Kelly (below), the truck carrying all the gear for bands set to perform on Stage 2 has been delayed up to 10 hours resulting in an absolute clusterfuck for all those involved.
AJ has backed up the story, tweeting that he is “dealing with a missing truck” only moments after arriving in Sydney.
Sharks were due onstage right this very moment but they have just announced they will not be performing at the Sydney festival.
Stage 2 is one of the biggest stages for the day, due to host acts such as The Vandals, Billy Talent, Sum 41, Paramore, Blink-182 and The Offspring. If you’re gearing up to head in for these bands – stay tuned.
UPDATE: 5:25pm
Hugely disappointing news – despite their gear arriving in town, Garbage have pulled out of the Sydney leg of Soundwave due to lack of time for preparation after this morning’s transport debacle. Get the full story over here.
UPDATE: 12:20pm
AJ Maddah says two truck out of 60 have been delayed, with “some” bands from Stage 2 caught up in the mess. Blink and Offspring are reportedly unaffected by the delay, and Garbage and Paramore are having their gear helicoptered in or flown in via freight plane from Queensland. So far no confirmation as to how many other bands will or will not be playing. More soon.
UPDATE: 1:14pm
All Stage 2 band performances “secure”, apart from Garbage and Paramore. Reports of Stage 2 bands being moved to Stage 1 are incorrect.
UPDATE: 2:08pm
AJ has said that Garbage will have their gear in time for their performance this evening, leaving only Paramore’s situation to contend with. Fingers crossed, Soundwavers!
UPDATE: 4:22pm
Paramore will now close Soundwave Sydney. Full details here.

So, a little peek into festival life: all the gear for stage 2 is delayed 10 hours. All stage 2 bands are fucked. Shits going crazy.

Sydney, we are so very sorry but our guitars were stuck in the storm so we will not be playing today. We are so disappointed but this…

Updates:
Worst case scenario, we will extend Sum 41 & Billy Talent sets, followed by Cypress & Garbage; & have Paramore go on after Offspring #SW13

@thatrachelkid_ Not yet. We’re trying all sorts of things.
— AJ (@iamnotshouting) February 24, 2013
UPDATE: I am told that Garbage’s gear will be here in time for their set. Only problem now is Paramore. #SW13 #sydney
— AJ (@iamnotshouting) February 24, 2013
I’m reallllly confused. Are all stage 2 acts on the one stage now like security guards are saying, that would be a clusterfuck for times.
— Charlie Cheesman (@_Charles2012) February 24, 2013
@_charles2012 no. As if they’d know
— AJ (@iamnotshouting) February 24, 2013
UPDATE: 58 trucks have arrived safely. 2 were caught in flooding affecting some bands on stage 2. #SW13 #Sydney
— AJ (@iamnotshouting) February 24, 2013
All other performances besides Garbage and Paramore are already secure. Hoping to have good news on those shortly #SW13 #Sydney
— AJ (@iamnotshouting) February 24, 2013
We’re looking at freight planes and helicopters to get Paramore and Garbage’s gear here in time for their shows #SW13#Sydney
— AJ (@iamnotshouting) February 24, 2013
Blink 182 and Offspring trucks are here safe and sound so their sets will not be affected whatsoever #SW13 #Sydney
— AJ (@iamnotshouting) February 24, 2013
Please be patient. I am doing everything possible to ensure all bands perform and all sets go ahead. #SW13 #Sydney
