Briggs Launches Sick New Metal Project Big Noter, Shares ‘Identity’

Following on from dipping his toes into heavy metal on swampy-riffin solo track ‘Munaarra’, First Nations hip-hop pioneer Briggs has launched a fully-fledged rap-metal project dubbed Big Noter. Not only has the new band announced themselves upon the world with an incendiary nu metal track dubbed ‘IDENTITY’, they’ve also unveiled their first ever live shows – big ones.

You can catch Big Noter popping their live cherry later this month, supporting none other than Rage Against The Machine icon Tom Morello at his Bluesfest 2025 sideshows in Melbourne and Sydney.

Big Noter – ‘IDENTITY’

“People might be surprised, but this is where I’m most at home, this is the sound I was raised on,” Briggs shares re: his decision to trade hip-hop beats for guitar riffs and tap into his hardcore, punk and metal roots, with a full live band in tow.

Engineered by the legendary Nick Didia (Rage Against The Machine, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen), ‘IDENTITY’ combines blues metal riffs and a Korn-esque guitar tone with the proud Yorta-Yorta/Wurundjeri/Wemba-Wemba man’s trademark politically-charged, take-no-prisoners lyrics.

With Briggs out front, Big Noter’s lineup is rounded out by Steve Smith on drums, Leigh Davies (on guitars and Craig Strain on bass.
